JL Audio
"Creating excitement and peace of mind for the people of the world"
JL Audio is a brand from the USA that focuses on delivering unique engineering, superior quality and high-performance audio. With a wide range of product price points, JL Audio harbor a strong belief that great audio has real value. They focus on providing excellent performance over maximum power handling and they specialise in subwoofers that offer a deep bass response.
Based in Florida and Arizona, JL Audio has grown a team that have a genuine love for audio. This exceptionally talented team is led by Chief Engineer, co-founder and CEO Lucio Proni, who brings with him a vast expanse of experience in loudspeaker design, mechanical design, audio retailing and car audio installation.
The company was born in 1975 by Mr. Proni and co-founder James Birch (The J and L in the Brand name are taken from their first names) and they started out by offering home audio speakers.
The first generations of their current Subwoofer range began to be produced in 1992 and throughout the 1990s, JL Audio became known across the United States and Canada after winning several awards in car audio competitions. Cut to 1996 and JL lead the development of their now legendary Subwoofer housings known as Stealthbox®, PowerWedge™ and Evolution®.
JL amplifiers came into being during the year 2000. The Slash amplifier utilised JL Audio’s R.I.P.S technology (Regulated, Intelligent Power Supply) which means that the power supply can change the way it operates the power output of the amplifier to accommodate different vehicle voltages.
Following a swathe of continuous product development, the company branched out into marine audio and also OEM integration (housings that are designed for specific car brands and models) known as the Cleansweep range but, not content with this impressive lineup of products, the brand also launched their TW range of thin-line subwoofer, designed especially for tiny enclosures.
Moving into the current range, JL Audio makes Subwoofer drivers range from 6.5 inches to 15 inches in diameter. Their Subwoofers range in power output from 150 Watts to a whopping 1500 Watts. Impedance on their Drivers can range from 2 Ohms to a dual 8 Ohms unit.
JL Audio’s coaxial speakers, component speakers and convertible speakers (these can be either coaxial or component) range from 0.5-inch tweeters to 6.5-inch Mid-rangers to offer a solution to any audiophile’s problem. Pretty impressive – part of the reason that JL Audio is considered a pioneer of the car audio industry.
